QuickBooks Desktop: Customizing the Icon Bar
The Icon Bar in QuickBooks Desktop can be customized in order to provide easier access to the features that you use most often.
First choose the location of the Icon Bar – top or left – from the View menu. (You also have the option to hide the Icon Bar.)
When the Icon Bar is located at the top of the screen, you can choose which shortcuts are displayed, and the order in which they are displayed.
When the Icon Bar is located at the left side of the screen, more options are shown. In addition to My Shortcuts, you can choose View Balances, Run Favorite Reports, or the list of open windows:
My Shortcuts, View Balances, and Run Favorite Reports each have an option for customization. The link to customize View Balances or Run Favorite Reports is at the bottom of the window:
To customize My Shortcuts, go to the View menu and choose Customize Icon Bar. Or choose Customize Shortcuts from the end of the list of shortcuts.
Then click on Add to access the full list of available shortcuts:
If the feature for which you want a shortcut is not in the list, you can create a shortcut for it. First open the window for which you want to create a shortcut, then go to the View menu and choose “Add … to Icon Bar” (where … represents the name of the open window).
When the Icon Bar is located at the top of the screen, the Customize window includes an option to display icons and text, or icons only, and an option to display the Search Box in the Icon Bar.
