QuickBooks: Paying Bills With a Credit Card

There are times when a company will pay an accounts payable bill with a credit card instead of writing a check.  Follow these instructions to pay the bill.

Go to the Vendors menu and click Pay Bills.

Select the bill you want to pay.  If applicable, set any discounts or credits that you want to apply to the bill.

Click the Payment Method drop-down arrow and choose Credit Card (note that you will need to have a Credit Card set up as a liability account and account type of credit card on your chart of accounts for this to work).  Click the Payment Account drop-down arrow and choose the credit card account which you are using to pay the bills.  QuickBooks automatically enters today’s date in the Payment Date field.  You can change this date if necessary.
