A useful feature of Excel that you might not have noticed is that when a group of cells is selected, information about those cells is displayed at the bottom of the screen in the Status bar:
By default, the status bar is set to display the Average, Count, and Sum of the selected values, but other statistics are available:
- Average = sum of the cell values divided by the number of cells
- Count = the number of non-blank cells
- Numerical count = the number of cells that contain numbers
- Minimum = the value of the lowest value cell
- Maximum = the value of the highest value cell
- Sum = total value of all selected cells
To customize the status bar, right-click on it and choose the features to be displayed:
